Compared to women, men do not receive nearly half the attention regarding outfits and accessories on their wedding day. Footwear is one the most important menswear accessory for their wedding fit and we, here at Shaadi Baraati, are here to give it the much needed attention.

Juttis

Typically Punjabi and North-Indian, the jutti, also known as 'khussa' and 'nagra', is a type of traditional footwear. They are made out of pure leather and have exquisite embroidery. Sometimes additional embellishments are added to give it a unique appeal. From casual and all day wear to wedding parties and festivals, juttis provide an essential ethnic appeal to the person wearing them.

It was extremely popular among the kings and the queens who belonged to the richest era of Indian history. The making of these exquisite shoes first originated in the state of Rajasthan. The style of Jutti back then was far more ornate and rich in texture and design which incorporated fine gemstones, and precious pearls. With the passage of time, nagra shoes gained a lot of popularity in Punjab, and underwent through various forms of experimentation and innovation.

Most of the designs were inspired by Afghani or Mughal architecture and Rajasthan’s rich flora and fauna. Common motifs used to embroider the nagras with, include flowers, leaves, birds, and other nature inspired designs. Nagras were originally made with simple and elegant thread work. Various types of Juttis are available which suit every occasion. From hand-painted, to embroidered, sequined designs, Juttis are gradually taking on a contemporary style too. Some juttis come with a pointed and curved nook in the front which is for men, while the ones for women have a simple and plain rounded or squared front.

Leather Sandals

Leather Sandals, especially Fisherman Sandals, are similar to men’s dress shoes and look quite classy. Not only are they comfortable, but easier to take off as well whenever necessary during your wedding. Its a quality pair of footwear that opposes the build quality of regular formal shoes. It also has a closed toe, so people won’t necessarily see any toes or toe hair, but still with a good amount of airflow, and you can wear them for hours. Sandals were originated in France and caught on, however these are not conventional for Winter Weddings as your feet will feel cold in these. Opt for formal shoes if you have a Winter Wedding.

Oxford Formal Shoes

Most men's formal shoes are made of leather, including the outer structure, lining, and sole. Though for more durability at the expense of elegance, many shoes are made with rubber soles. Oxford shoes refer to any very formal lace-up shoe in the United Kingdom. Oxford shoes are also known by their variation, or style. The Cap-Toe Oxford is the most well-known, although 'Whole Cut', 'Plain Toe', is the variations of Oxfords that are commonly referred to styles among men who like formal, leather shoes for that polished look to an outfit on a formal occasion.

Brogue Shoes

Brogue shoes are a variation of the Classic Oxfords that are also known as the Cap-Toe Oxford. Brogue shoes have the style of a low-heeled shoe or boot traditionally characterized by multiple-piece, sturdy leather uppers with decorative perforations. They are also known as wing top shoes.

Whole Cut Shoes

Another variation of Oxfords is the Whole Cut shoes that are made from a single piece of flawless leather with or without a back seam. Shoes made without a back seam are known as seamless whole cut. The absence of decorative features and overall conservative and clean look tend to make whole cuts appropriate for black-tie occasions such as weddings.

Just remember to color co-ordinate your shoes with your trousers or sherwani and your socks. If you chose to wear a sherwani, it is recommended that you opt for juttis or sandals. The Oxfords and other closed shoes are a better option for a suit. Be sure to be comfortable in whatever footwear you choose as you will be wearing them for hours on the big day.
