Wedding Guest Limit in India - Latest State Wise Government COVID Wedding Guidelines 2021

  
The summer wedding season is upon us, but the second wave of COVID-19 has cast a shadow over celebrations once more .

With many forced to postpone their weddings last year, venues were booked months beforehand this year as people looked forward to hosting their big day celebrations without restriction However, the resurgence of COVID-19 infections, including uncertainty over new government directive.

The wedding industry, which was hopeful of a turnaround after the dismal business last year, is once more hit by last-minute changes in plans as a results of fear, panic and an overall sense of uncertainty looming large.

As far as the latest COVID 19 guidelines for weddings are concerned, they are different  from one state to the other and one metro city to the other. Here is a comprehensive list:

Wedding Guidelines in Delhi

  • The Delhi government, however, said that marriages can be organized at home or a court but only 20 people will be allowed to participate.
  • Government has imposed a complete ban on marriages and wedding ceremonies at public places.
  • Attending or participants wedding would need a marriage card for movement. Ans e-Passes will be issued separately.
  • The DJ, sound system, catering or similar kind of services will not be allowed for the marriage ceremony.
  • Banquet halls and Hotels owners have to either return the advance money paid their customer for conducting marriages or have to mutually agree to organize the wedding at future date.

Wedding Guidelines for Bangalore & Karnataka 

  • The Karnataka government has imposed restrictions on weddings due to the lockdown, which is likely to be lifted on June 14.
  • Conducting wedding during COVID-19 in Karnataka is possible if you downsize the guest list according to the latest announcement from Health Department.
  • The Karnataka government said that passes will be issued to the 40 guests and they can only enter when they show the passes.
  • Those organising weddings will be required to submit a duly signed application along with the invitation card or any other relevant document to the concerned Joint Commissioner of the BBMP Zone in the BBMP area or the concerned Tahsildar in the districts to obtain permission to conduct the marriage function.
  • On the receipt of the application, the Joint Commission of the BBMP Zone or Tahsildar shall issue 40 passes for each of the marriage event.
  • Attending or participants wedding would need a marriage card for movement. Ans e-Passes will be issued separately.

Wedding Guidelines for Mumbai & Maharashtra

  • Wedding guests limited to 25.
  • Fresh restrictions in Maharashtra: Marriage ceremonies not allowed beyond 2 hours.
  • Any family seen to be flouting the rules, norms or not following these may be fined Rs 50,000
  • If any location that is misused or is defaulting in spirit of the restrictions shall be closed till the promulgation of Covid 19 as a disaster remains in force.

Wedding Guidelines for Goa

  • Police to remove excess wedding guests from venues as COVID curbs kick in.
  • Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Tuesday said the police will not hesitate to remove wedding guests from venues if their number crosses the permissible limit of 50.
  • If the crowd limit exceeds, a fine will be imposed on the owner of the venue," Sawant said, adding that the police will also patrol the area near the wedding venue, if needed.
  • If the number of guests exceed the permissible limit, the police will get them out of the premises, he said.

Wedding Guidelines for Jammu & Kashmir

  • Lockdown has been extended till June 15 for now.
  • As per guidelines issued by the J&K administration, only 25 guests are allowed to attend any marriage function in Srinagar.
  • The daily curfew timing is from 8 PM to 7 AM

Wedding Guidelines for Punjab

  • Punjab government’s decision to limit gathering to 10 people at weddings.
  • Districts such as Ludhiana, Jalandhar, Patiala, Mohali, Amritsar, Hoshiarpur, Kapurthala, SBS Nagar, Fatehgarh Sahib, Ropar and Moga, which will remain under night curfew from 9 pm to 5 am.
  • Not more than 10 visitors should be entertained in homes as well.

Wedding Guidelines for Chandigarh

  • Chandigarh caps number of people attending events.
  • Maximum number of persons allowed at indoor, outdoor events will be 100, 200, respectively.
  • Only 200 persons will be allowed at functions organised outdoor or 50 per cent capacity of the size of the open space, whichever is less.

Wedding Guidelines for Haryana

  • The number of guests in the wedding is fixed, 50 in these six districts and 100 in the rest are allowed.
  • Six districts of the state Gurugram, Rewari, Faridabad, Rohtak, Sonipat and Hisar, 50 people will be able to participate in indoor hall programs and 100 people in open spaces. 
  • In the remaining districts, this number will be limited to 100 in indoor hall events and 200 in open spaces.

Wedding Guidelines for Rajasthan

  • Rajasthan imposes new stricter marriage guidelines, follow them or pay hefty fine
  • The number of guests at the weddings has now been restricted to 31 instead of the earlier set limit of 50 people, excluding the band players.
  • The government added that if the time of the function surpasses the set deadline of three hours, another penalty of Rs 1 lakh will be charged. 
  • No person shall organise more than one function for any marriage and he/she shall submit prior written intimation, preferably through an e-mail to the Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) concerned, according to the guidelines.

Wedding Guidelines for Gujarat

  • #CoronaCrisis: More than 80% of April-May weddings in Gujarat postponed.
  • Only 50 people at weddings from April 14 2021.
  • There is a daily night curfew in effect from 9 PM to 6 AM, which is currently implemented.

Wedding Guidelines for Uttar Pradesh

  • Maximum 25 people allowed in weddings, events
  • The Yogi Adityanath government in Uttar Pradesh has now issued fresh directives, allowing a maximum of 25 people to take part in weddings and other functions in view of the Coovid pandemic.
  • Earlier, a maximum of 50 people or 50 per cent of the capacity of the marriage hall were permitted. A maximum of 100 persons were allowed in open spaces.
  • Social distancing will have to be strictly followed while making seating arrangements, besides making proper arrangements for sanitation and cleanliness of toilets at the venue where the function is being organised

Wedding Guidelines for Uttarakhand

  • Only 25 people can attend marriage event in Uttarakhand now.
  • Chief Minister Tirath Singh Rawat on Saturday further lowered the cap on the number of people attending a marriage ceremony in the state from 100 to 25 in the wake of the sharp rise in COVID-19 cases.
  • A negative RT-PCR report is mandatory to attend wedding ceremonies.

Wedding Guidelines for Himachal Pradesh

  • Only 20 people will be able to attend the wedding from May 1, ban on mass dinner.
  • District Administration Una has reduced the number of persons attending the wedding ceremony from 50 to 20
  • There will be a complete ban on public programs of marriage in district Una and mass banquets will also not be organized.
  • DJ will not be allowed in the wedding

Wedding Guidelines for Madhya Pradesh

  • MP Govt Restricts Gathering at Marriage Functions to 10 Persons only from each side.
  • It is mandatory to furnish the list of guests to the local administration in advance.
  • There will be separate sets of unlocking guidelines for the places having the COVID-19 positivity rate above 5 per cent and below 5 per cent.

Wedding Guidelines for Andhra Pradesh

  • There is a daily curfew in place from 12 PM to 6 AM till June 10, 2021.
  • Only 20 people would be allowed to attend the wedding.
  • The names of those attending the ceremony would have to be submitted to the tehsildar. Tehsildars will inspect the venues and register cases against violators.

Wedding Guidelines for Telangana

  • The maximum number of persons allowed for wedding should not exceed 40
  • Curfew is in order from midnight to 6 AM till Jun  8, 2021.
  • Only 40 members are allowed for marriage who procures prior permission.

Wedding Guidelines for Tamil Nadu

  • Lockdown in the state has been extended till June 7 for now.
  • A maximum of 50 members are allowed to participate in marriages.
  • Travel for weddings of close relatives would be allowed on production of relevant documents.

Wedding Guidelines for Kerala

  • Lockdown has been extended in Kerala till June 9, 2021.
  • Places of worship closed, guests in weddings limited to 20 numbers.
  • Wedding ceremonies to be registered on Covid 19 'Jagratha' portal in advance.
  • Functions cannot exceed longer than two hours.
  • Those attending weddings should carry an identification document and the wedding invitation as well.

Wedding Guidelines for Bihar

  • Lockdown in the state has been extended till June 7 for now
  • The latest restrictions allowing maximum 50 guests at a marriage function.
  • No Baraati Allowed, Intimation has to be given in prior 4 days of wedding.
  • Night curfew is in order from 6 PM to 6 AM.

Wedding Guidelines for Jharkand 

  • Lockdown in the state has been extended till June 10 for now.
  • Maximum 50 guests are allowed to attend the wedding ceremony for protection from corona infection.
  • According to the guidelines of the government, two yards distance and mask is mandatory in the marriage ceremony.
  • Information about the wedding ceremony will have to be given to the local police station concerned.

Wedding Guidelines for Assam

  • Marriages and religious functions will be only private affairs and be allowed with presence of maximum of 10 persons.
  • No reception parties will be allowed post or pre marriage.

Wedding Guidelines for Pondicherry

  • Marriages and religious functions will be only private affairs and be allowed with presence of maximum of 25 persons.
  • No reception parties will be allowed post or pre marriage.

Wedding Guidelines for Chhattisgarh

  • Only 10 persons can attend weddings
  • Several districts in the state have set different limits on the number of people allowed at weddings, while some other districts have even cancelled permission for such functions during the lockdown at the local level.

Wedding Guidelines for Odisha

  • Marriage and its related functions shall be held only with prior permission (in writing or through electronic communication) of the local Police Station.
  • Local Police Station will be authorized to give permission for holding marriage and its related functions subject to participation of maximum 50 persons.
  • There will be no marriage procession until further orders.
  • Vulnerable groups of people, such as, persons above Ob years of age, children below 10 years, persons with co-morbidities and pregnant women are advised not to attend the function.
